Try To Be Me
by Dave Bealer

Try to be me,
for just a short while,
if you'd like to see,
what makes me smile.

Before you criticize me,
for the things I do,
put yourself in my place,
you would do them too.

War could be abolished,
the devil blown away,
if we could be each other,
for just one short day.

This old world we live in,
would be a better place,
if we got under each other's skin,
wore each other's face.

First rights to this poem were sold to Teens Today back in 1977. It was Dave's first sale, and probably his first publication. Since Dave never received his contributor copy, he can't be certain it was published.
